Vision Support Teachers

The Vision Support Teacher is a qualified teacher with additional training in children with a visual impairment.

The vision support teacher will be referred to your child by the Ophthalmologist and will support your child from referral (maybe offering advice about early visual stimulation) right up to 18 years where required.

Vision Support Teachers aim to:

  • Advise and support parents about the implications of  their child’s eye condition

  • Promote the inclusion of children with a visual  impairment within mainstream pre-school and school placements

  • Facilitate access to NI curriculum

  • Provide support and training to the classroom  assistants and teachers of pupils with a visual  impairment

  • Angel eyes NI will be able to put you in touch with a Vision Support teacher in your area if your child has not had contact with one.
