Angel Eyes NI are delighted to host Professor Kathryn Saunders, Professor John Ravenscroft and Janet Harwood as our guest panel at our Understanding Visual Processing Difficulties Conference. This is being held on 7th June 2019 at Stormont Parliament Buildings from 10 am – 4pm.
Professor John Ravenscroft (Chair of Childhood Visual Impairment) is a Psychologist, Educationalist, and lectures a little in Philosophy. He is the Director of the Scottish Sensory Centre, a national centre that provides Career Long Professional Development for Teachers of Children with Sensory Impairment, including those with Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI).
Professor Kathryn Saunders is a senior academic lecturer at Ulster University with a special interest in children's eye care. She has published over 70 peer reviewed scientific papers whose topics centered on the development of visual function both in the typically developing visual system and in the presence of neurological impairment. Professor Saunders is leading several long-term studies of typical and atypical visual development in children with, and without, learning disability.
Janet Harwood is a Qualified Teacher of Visually Impaired (QTVI), Chair of Trustees of the CVI Society and a trustee of CVI Scotland. Her passion is raising awareness of the condition as her own practical experiences and beliefs, underpinned by knowledge of how the 'visual brain' works, demonstrate that everyone with CVI can be helped to achieve their potential. She has given talks for many organisations and groups including VICTA, RNIB, ophthalmologists and paediatricians. Janet Harwood will present a talk on how to support CVI in the school setting.
Registration will open at 9.30am on Friday 7th June in room R115 in Stormont Parliament Buildings. The conference will commence at 10am. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided. Please advise us of any dietary requirements. Conference will close at 4pm.
