Hello, my name is Kerrie Cartmill. I am the Angel Eyes NI Parent Support Co-Ordinator for 4 -19 year olds and their families. I am married to Stuart, and we have two children Matthew and Emily. Matthew is visually impaired and has additional needs. Supporting families and their children who have sight loss, and additional needs is something I am very passionate about, and have personal experience of.
My background is in education, and I worked as a Primary School Teacher for 7 years, prior to having my children. For the last 5 years I have been a full-time carer to Matthew, being kept busy with everyday responsibilities for caring for a young disabled child.
We have been service users of Angel Eyes from Matthew was 1 years old, and I have experienced and benefited from the support and sharing of information I have received from the team. I started working with the Angel Eyes NI as Parent Support Co-Ordinator in November 2018. I am delighted to now be working as part of the team, and want to use my personal journey and knowledge gained, to support and empower other parents and support them in their journey.
Hello, my name is Deirdre Burns. I am the Administrative assistant and Fundraising co-ordinator in Angel Eyes. I have three children and two of my girls are visually impaired. I was a Primary teacher for 10 years before starting my own business, teaching music to under fives. When my youngest daughter was very young, I became her main carer, as she was diagnosed as severely sight impaired at the age of 1.
My youngest daughter, Caoimhe has been a service user of Angel Eyes for the past three years and we have both really benefited from the support we have received. As a parent I found it invaluable to speak to other parents who were going through a similar situation.
Over the years, I have enjoyed organising fundraising events in schools and in my own business. I am looking forward to organising charity events for Angel Eyes and include as many families as possible, to raise funds for Angel Eyes.
I am very passionate about supporting other families and their children who have sight loss and as I have personal experience of this, I can pass on my knowledge and understanding to others.
